Video Game Designer – hobby or job?
Do you like playing games? I’m sure you do. I love playing games too and now I’m building them. Here is my little story about how I become a Video Game Designer.
When I played my first video game
I remember I played my first video game in 1990. Wow… So many years… Anyway, I was walking in a Fun Park with my friends when we discovered a strange game machine making a lot of sounds. We got closer and someone dared to INSERT a COIN. We watched him playing and after 5 minutes we started to play. We were awful players but it was not a long time until we started to learn the game. I spent all my pocket money and returned there many times. I remember I was so excited and I liked the game so much. In the evening before I was asleep I was thinking how to destroy more ships and get more points. Many strategies were coming into my mind and I was looking all time to the clock to see how much time it is until the park was opening.
Here is the game. I found it on youtube
How I bought my first Computer
A colleague of mine told me that if I buy a Personal Computer (PC) I can play similar games and even develop new games. This was something very curios for me but I really like the idea. I spent around 8 months until I gathered enough money to buy a second hand computer. I was ready to buy it when my father came and gave me the rest for a new computer. I couldn’t belief. My dream was going to become true! I couldn’t sleep all the night. Of course, in the morning I was very tired and we left to the shop to buy the computer. We bought the PC from the picture bellow. A model called CIP 03

My first drawing
A colleague of mine (Vasile Preduna – Thank you!) started to teach me how to make my first drawing on SPECTRUM – BASIC programming language that come with the computer. We draw something like the image bellow.
I kept practicing and learning until I managed to build my first invader game. It was with only with 16 colors at a very low resolution but I really loved it. Unfortunately I don’t have it anymore because my computer crashed and I lost the tape but I remember it like it was yesterday.
